Competitions
Competitions can be run at various levels and for different Grades. Players are usually split into male and female and put into weight groups in Kg's so make sure you know your weight.
Below is some information about the types of competitions out there:
Mini Mons -
Usually 6th Mon (Yellow 3 stripes) and under but can be specified as lower. These can be age banded as well depending on the organisers. Great for beginners.
Age Banded -
Players are put into age groups. They can be further split into grades depending on the organisers. There are different rules for Under 10 and under 12's see here
Split Grade -
Players only compete with those of similar levels as the event is split between different levesl of grades to give a fair contest.
Rumbles -
Usually Red or Yellow belt rumbles works similar to split grade that you fight similar graded players. Great for beginners
Team -
Club/county teams can go in for competitions that are based on the scores of the group as a whole.
Club / Inter club
These can be run to encourage participation in competitions within or between clubs and are generally small events. They may be run on a weekend end or during a clubs existing training times. Usually 1* events a maxinmum of 50 players
County
Run by one of the counties comitees such as Hampshire, Berkshire or Sussex County.
These can be open events meaning that anyone out of area can attend the competition.
Closed events mean that your licence must show you belong to that County
Summit is part of Hampshire so we would only attend Hampshire as Closed county events. (Note these events usually help you get onto the Hampshire squad if you do well)
Area
Areas consist of a group of counties and is the next step to the national competitions.
Those that do well at the trials can be picked for the Southern Area Squad and obtain an invitaion to the nationals.
These can be open events meaning that anyone out of area can attend the competition.
Closed events mean that your licence must show you belong to the correct Area.
Summit is part of Southern Area so we would only attend Southern Area as Closed county events. (Note these events usually help you get onto the SA squad if you do well)
